Puleng: From the Hills of KwaZulu-Natal to the Highlands of Scotland

Every child at iKhethelo Children’s Village carries a story of potential—and Puleng’s journey is one that continues to inspire us all.
After completing her schooling at Hillcrest High, Puleng took a bold and faith-filled step. She joined the Fox Fires, an evangelistic youth team run by African Enterprise, a ministry committed to sharing the Gospel across the continent. For a year, Puleng traveled through rural schools and communities across South Africa, sharing the love and hope of Jesus Christ with hundreds of young people. That year transformed her—not only spiritually, but in confidence and purpose.
Following her gap year, Puleng was sponsored by an incredibly kind couple who believed in her dream of becoming a chef. She enrolled at the International Hotel School, where her passion for food and excellence flourished over the next three years. But her dream didn’t stop there—Puleng longed to take her skills abroad. Thanks to the support of the South African Children’s Charitable Trust, Puleng made the leap to Scotland, where she’s now been working in hotels for the past two years.
Today, Puleng is thriving—gaining experience in the kitchens of the Scottish Highlands and making a name for herself in the culinary world. She recently returned home for a short visit to see her younger brother and sister, who are still part of the iKhethelo family. Her success is not only a reflection of her talent and perseverance, but of the power of faith, mentorship, and opportunity.
Puleng’s journey is a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when love meets potential. From ministry outreach in South Africa to hospitality excellence in Scotland, she is truly making waves—and we couldn’t be prouder. Keep shining, Puleng!
